About Frank Lloyd Wright's Avery Coonley House Rug:

Considering that this sprawling Prairie Style home was conceived in the midst of the high Victorian era, it remains to this day one of the prime examples of Wright’s innovative approach to home design. This stuccoed suburban home, originally situated on an acre of land, encompassed the extensive wooded landscape of which it was a part. The estate, designed on a grand scale, included sunken gardens, a gardener’s cottage and a coach house in addition to the expansive main house. Believing the architect should create total environments, Frank Lloyd Wright designed decorative elements for many aspects of his homes to create a cohesive whole.  This design is adapted from a watercolor of a tapestry rug planned for the Avery Coonley House. Designed between 1906 and 1908, the rug was never executed.
